Blog Series: Highlighting Local San Diego Professionals - Brittany Watson, PMHNPBC

Brittany Watson is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner practicing in the San Diego area.

Having a network of local professionals with whom I can refer my clients is an important aspect of the work that I do. I recently connected with Brittany Watson, who is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner located here in San Diego.

I was amazed and impressed by her practice, Hemisphere Health, and wanted to share more about who she is and her services:

Why did you decide to decide to open your Psychiatric Mental Health practice in San Diego, CA?

I was born and raised in the vibrant city of San Diego, so naturally, it felt like the perfect decision to establish my practice in my beloved hometown.

What kind of services do you provide?

I specialize in a comprehensive range of mental health services, including medication management, talk therapy, evaluations for diagnosis, and treatment plans. My approach integrates prescribed medications, nutritional adjustments, and the incorporation of supplements for holistic care. Additionally, I offer pharmacogenetic testing, which assesses how specific psychotropic medications interact with an individual's unique DNA. My practice is dedicated to addressing mental health from a multidimensional perspective, considering both the mental and physical well-being of my clients.

How does your service help people with trauma?

My services are designed to support individuals in their journey of healing from trauma. I focus on reducing and ultimately eliminating symptoms, all while enhancing their quality of life. My goal is to assist clients in their recovery process, providing them with the tools and support they need to move forward.

What kind of people do you love working with?

I have a particular passion for working with children, adolescents, and young adults as they navigate their school and college years. While I see clients of all ages, I believe that our younger generation holds the key to our future success. It's incredibly rewarding to help them overcome challenges and ensure they're on a path towards success. Plus, working with them keeps me young at heart. I also very much enjoy working with moms, because in reality us moms have to stick together and support each other through the unique challenges we face.

What happens during a first appointment with you?

During our initial appointment, I allocate approximately 60-90 minutes for us to connect. This session is all about going at your own pace, and any questions you're not comfortable with can be set aside. Think of it as a casual coffee date where we get to know each other. Together, we'll explore the areas where you're seeking support and collaboratively create a personalized game plan. Whether that involves therapy, medications, supplements, or a combination, it's all tailored to your comfort level and needs.

What do you wish people knew about services with you?

As a psychiatric nurse practitioner with experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, I bring a diverse perspective to my practice. Beyond being a mental health provider, I'm also a mom, a dog lover, a food enthusiast, and someone who cherishes beach days and travel adventures.

I strive for my patients to see me as more than just a provider in a white coat; I genuinely care for each individual who walks through our doors. At Hemisphere, every patient becomes a part of our extended family. We believe in standing beside you on your journey to wellness, recognizing that it's a unique path for each person. I incorporate evidence based medications as well as innovative, out of the box treatments into my practice.

Accessibility is key in our practice. All my patients have direct access to me because I want them to feel supported every step of the way. Your well-being is our priority, and we're committed to finding the approach that works best for you.
